#ASAE10 – Lauper, Li’talien, and Lindy

I am still winding down from an amazing experience at this year’s ASAE Annual Convention.  As I head home, all I can say is “Woah”.  I am totally blown away by the intense experience we’ve had over the past 4 days.
NimbleUser sent 4 of us, Sig VanDamme, Dawn VanDamme, Ron Wille and myself.  Leading up to the show the excitement in the air was palpable.  Our experience as an exhibitor went off without a hitch.  We found ASAE staff doing an excellent job coordinating all the facilities to make our exhibiting experience as stress free as possible.

The buzz on the show floor for us – SALESFORCE!  Last year we introduced Salesforce.com to the association space, and we were pleased to see that it is taking a foothold.  Cloud computing is gaining traction and we enjoyed many great conversations with association professionals on the subject.

Beyond our immediate product offerings, we had many conversations about integrations.  The need has never been greater than ever to integrate AMS, CMS, Social Networks, and E-Commerce into unified solutions.

Okay, enough about work.

By far, the best part of the show for me was meeting many of my Twitter friends in real life for the first time.  I was warmly welcomed by Kiki Li’talien, Maddie Grant, Lindy Dryer, Deirdre Reid, Kylee Coffman, Jeff Hurt, Tom Morrison, Teri Carden, and many, many others.  My favorite part about working with associations is the great people and community and connecting other young association professionals.  The culmination of this was a special live edition of the Social Media SweetSpot  show in which I was invited to make a guest appearance!

I loved listening to everyone’s take on the event as a whole and got into some great conversations about their experiences with social media and technology.  It was like hanging out with a group of great friends… with a purpose.  Every one of them was passionate about their members and helping people, and we all had an awful lot to talk about.  My only regret is that we didn’t have more time.

Finally, I had a great time with my co-workers.  We shared many meals and laughs throughout the week and we will be returning to the office with a newfound sense of camaraderie.  I feel truly lucky to be included in such things and amazed that I got to see Melissa Etheridge, Cindy Lauper, enjoy tons of amazing food, people, dancing, and good times.  I can sum it all up in one word:  Awesomesauce.
