As a product manager/owner at NimbleUser for the past year, I have had the opportunity to see how we scope and develop new features for Nimble AMS. That experience has strengthened my level of respect for our team, and the amazing work they do on a day-to-day basis. After all, it is their work that allows us to, as Ted Husted, Release Engineer, puts it, “make the sausage” that is Nimble AMS.

I have borne witness to the meteoric growth of both our customer base and  product capabilities.  However, that growth has not come without its challenges, not the least of which is the constant tug of war between developing to meet expressed customer needs and developing to meet our own product vision for Nimble AMS.


New Role

In June, I took on a new role at NimbleUser as the Director of Product Strategy with the goal of forging a holistic strategy for Nimble AMS that melds explicit customer needs into an overall product direction that will position Nimble AMS and our customers for long-term growth and success.
My 25 career in Association Management has been quite rich. I have worked for both professional and trade associations over the years and each of those experiences has taught me incredibly important lessons.
Some Examples:

  • A Nurses Association gave me an understanding of the role associations can and should play in garnering public respect for an undervalued profession;
  • A Commission for Community Colleges gave me a heavy dose of government relations and the important role of data in making an effective case for funding;
  • A Bar Association gave me a fundamental understanding of continuing education and the important role associations play in providing that education; and
  • A Public Gardens Association presented the opportunity to create a national voice for our members through both public and private partnerships.

Team Effort

Those lessons and many others will guide me as I envision the future for Nimble AMS. Thankfully, I will not be embarking on this journey alone. I am fortunate to be surrounded by colleagues and customers who have an equally deep and diverse background as me. By combining my experiences and that of our stakeholders, I will bring a more global perspective of associations to my work.

A Bright Future Together

Over the course of my career I have participated in many strategic planning exercises. The consistent thread determining the success or failure of those efforts was the combination of a clearly articulated strategy and a plan to achieve it. So as I begin my new role, I promise you the strategies we generate will be extensively researched and include the necessary specificity to carry them forward. 
I am excited about the future and look forward to working together with each of you to set the future direction of Nimble AMS!
