Like fellow Nimbler, Matt Holloway, Karyn also has a musical side. (Yes, I am now considering forming a NimbleUser band — Tour dates to be announced soon.) Today, we’ll dig in to her many talents, her proudest moment, and some great advice passed down from her great-grandmother.
I play the flute! I have played since I was 12, and have played in many local high school musical pit orchestras, as well as with the Victor Community Band.
When you were a child, what did you dream of being when you grew up?
A member of a Broadway pit orchestra.
What is your proudest moment?
After a few gap years (30 or so), I finally obtained my degree in Sociology. One of my proudest moments was passing my oral final and sharing the achievement with my daughter who was also a Naz (Nazareth College) student at the time!
What are three things you couldn’t live without?
My family, ice cream, and Netflix.
What do you do when you’re not at work?
Watch my youngest daughter play 2nd base for the Victor Varsity softball team (I’m president of the Booster Club), spend as much time as possible with my family, cuddle up with my dog and binge-watch Netflix.
What is the best advice you’ve ever received?
A quote from my great-grandmother: “Amici, come maccheroni, se non sono caldi, non sono buone!” which translates to: “Friends, like macaroni, if they’re not warm, they’re not good!”
Of the six NimbleUser core values, which resonates most with you, and why?
I’ve always enjoyed learning, so practicing continuous improvement is probably the value that resonates most with me. Continually striving to do better and learning from mistakes is a great way to learn and live! I’m the baker in my family, and every batch of cookies, every cheesecake, every cupcake is never good enough – I’m encouraged to keep trying!
How do you think NimbleUser’s culture extends to the client experience?
Customer service is always key. Every step through a client’s journey embraces that commitment to quality customer service – thinking ahead, gathering feedback and testing are all a part of our culture that translates to the customer.
